In one study by Crincoli et al, they indicated that 68.8% of people with psoriasis (with and without psoriatic arthritis) had some type of TMD (joint sound of clicks and pops, pain, joint arthritis and other TMJ related symptoms) compared to the healthy people (24.1%).

This is nearly three-fold higher frequency. In other studies, the prevalence of TMD in patients with psoriasis without arthritis were a lot lower and they were 29.4% (Dervis et al) and 28% (Kononen).

In fact in this particular study by Crincoli et al, the incidence of TMD was even higher in the patients with psoriatic arthritis at 80%.

Obviously, I meet my clients because they have TMJ issues.

But I find a similar trend to what Crincoli et al found in people with psoriasis or psoriatic arthritis.

The most common symptoms complained are; Tenderness and stiffness in the neck and shoulders, Headaches, Pain on chewing Locking sensation or being stuck Clenching/Bruxing/Cheek tightness problem leading to tooth cracking and tooth loss Psoriasis is a skin, nails, scalp and mucous inflammatory condition and Psoriatic arthritis is a seronegative inflammatory condition frequently preceded by psoriasis that should be treated and managed by dermatologist and rheumatologist respectively.

Where TMJ Physio can help is to alleviate the symptoms occurring at TMJs and surrounding areas such as neck, shoulders, locking sensation and clenching/tightness issues.
